Co-operation across national borders
TCO has been present on the international arena for over 60 years.
TCO works internationally – globally and within the EU – with largely the same issues that it deals with at the national level: economic issues, employment, working conditions and trade union and human rights.
Since Sweden joined the EU, many of the decisions that were previously made in Sweden are now made at the EU level. This has added a new dimension to TCO’s efforts to influence important decisions.
The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) is the prime representative of trade union members in Europe.
In 1949, TCO was among the founders of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions, now merged and transformed to International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).
TCO is also one of the founders of the ETUC and its Nordic equivalent, the Council of Nordic Trade Unions (NFS), as well as of the Trade Union Advisory Council (TUAC) to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
